A simple phone case alone is not enough to fully protect your device. The front of your phone should be protected with tempered glass. Replacing a broken display is one of the most expensive phone repairs. This can be easily avoided by using a basic protective glass.
While unbreakable glass for mobile phones does not exist, in most cases the display remains undamaged when dropped. However, you should not underestimate the choice of tempered glass. The higher the quality and durability of the glass you select, the better its protection. There are several types of tempered glass for mobile phones on the market. What should you focus on when choosing one?
What Types of Protective Glass for Mobile Phones Exist?
Classic 2D Protective Glass – This is flat glass designed for displays without curved edges. Classic protective glass is sometimes smaller and does not cover the entire display. A thin strip on the sides may remain uncovered. These types of glass are no longer widely produced; you will find them mainly for older phone models or as universal protective glass.
2.5D Mobile Protective Glass – One of the most commonly used types of tempered glass. Primarily designed for flat displays, but unlike classic glass, it has rounded edges, making screen handling easier. They are available in two variants – clear or with a black border. The glass does not extend to the very edge of the display, allowing you to choose a sturdier back cover or a folio case without pushing the glass out of place.
3D Mobile Protective Glass – This is full-coverage glass that protects the entire display from edge to edge. The advantage is full-screen protection, including the edges. However, it is important to choose a suitable phone case, as thicker covers or cases may push this type of glass out. Therefore, a 0.3 mm thin back cover, compatible with this glass, is recommended.
4D, 5D, and 6D Protective Glass – The latest models of protective glass. Like 3D glass, they provide full-screen coverage but offer even greater protection. They are more scratch-resistant and absorb impacts better.
Privacy Protective Glass – This type of glass has a special layer that makes the display invisible from certain angles, protecting your privacy.
Anti-Blue Protective Glass – Contains a special filter that reduces the amount of blue light emitted from the display, helping protect your eyesight.
What to Focus on When Choosing Protective Glass
Protective glass is produced in various thicknesses, usually from 0.2 to 0.4 mm. Each glass typically indicates its hardness, with 9H being the most common. Tempered glass can withstand scratches from objects like keys or coins.
If you are looking for glass that resists smudges and fingerprints, choose one with an oleophobic coating. This special surface treatment prevents fingerprints and smears while making the glass easy to clean.
Protective Films for Mobile Phones
In addition to tempered glass, you can also use a protective film to safeguard your phone. Films are less popular today because they do not provide the same level of protection as tempered glass. They are primarily used for displays with curved edges, where applying tempered glass is more difficult. Due to their thinness, films can be combined with all types of phone cases. When used with a protective case, they provide an adequate level of protection.
Whether you choose a film or any type of protective glass, always select it according to the specific model of your smartphone. In our FOON e-shop, you will find a wide range of films and tempered glass for mobile phones.
