Mobile phone chargers are an indispensable accessory for any mobile phone. Unfortunately, some manufacturers no longer include them with their latest smartphones, which is why it is useful to know what kind of charger you can buy.
A mobile phone charger serves to recharge your phone’s battery. Depending on where you spend most of your time, you can choose from several types. The most common are classic wall chargers, but car chargers and wireless chargers are just as popular.
For all types of mobile chargers, choosing the correct connector is crucial. Currently, three types of connectors are mainly used – MicroUSB, USB-C, and Lightning for Apple devices. If you choose the wrong connector, you will not be able to use the charger with your phone.
Wall Chargers
Classic wall chargers are designed for charging through an electrical outlet. You can buy a complete charger in one piece, but more often you will come across a separated adapter and cable. Even if a complete charger is not included in the box, you should at least have a cable suitable for your phone model.
The most important parameter of wall chargers is their power output, which determines the charging speed. You can calculate the total power (Watt) by multiplying the electric current (Ampere) and voltage (Volt).
It is important to check your phone’s specifications and find out what type of charging it supports. If you use a charger with lower power, it will take longer to charge your phone. You do not need to worry if you use a charger with higher power – the phone will only draw as much energy as it can handle.
QuickCharge Fast Chargers
If your smartphone supports fast charging, it is definitely worth investing in a fast charger. Such a charger can power your device up to twice as quickly compared to a standard wall charger.
Wireless chargers work on the principle of electrical induction between two coils. One is located inside the mobile phone and the other in the charging pad. You simply connect the pad to the power supply and place your phone on it. The pad can be square, round, or designed as a stand into which you insert your phone while it charges.
The drawback of a wireless charger is that you cannot hold and fully use your phone during charging. Wireless chargers also provide lower power and slower charging speed compared to wall chargers. You also need to keep in mind that not every phone supports wireless charging. If your device does not support it, you will not be able to charge it with a wireless charger.
If you often travel and spend a lot of time in your car, a car charger is a great solution. Its advantage is that you do not need to worry about your phone running out of battery while on the road. Some car chargers come with a built-in cable for the connector you need, but most of the time, just an adapter is enough to connect your own cable. The choice is up to you.
Some car chargers have only one output, but most come with at least two outputs, allowing you to charge multiple devices at once. You should pay attention to the output current, which is specified in amperes. A 1A car charger will charge your phone more slowly, so it is better to choose one with at least 2A output.
